this morning, my old primary school had a verymary mass for the year ones. is it a feast day or something? it wasn't explicitly mentioned or anything, but everything was mary. especially the songs. and I would know, because my dad and i were the entire choir and band (my dad plays guitar, and that counts dammit) which is why we were there. it went pretty quickly, and all most of the kids were cuteness. one of the little boys who did a reading had a cold or some kind of sinus infection (something i know all about because of education lectures... which is, on reflection, an odd place to learn about childhood infections i think) though, so that was funny.
when my dad and i got home, i helped him put away his music and guitar, and asked him if i could steal his old guitar. not his new one, not the tiny one, the old one. with a 70salmost60shippy shoulder strap. i hope he never wore that in public... well, at least not after 1980. anyway, he said yes, rumaged around in the garage for it, found it and handed it over. i went straight up to my room and started playing with it, searching for guitar chords (not tabs), and then a guitar chord chart to translate, for snow patrol's make this go on forever. well, to be honest, i had to tune it first, and the g, b and (geographically)low/(pitchwise)high e sounded like they were ready to twangsnap their way outta their, but i didn't waste much time getting up there.
the only previous guitar experience i've had was in year 10 - three years ago - and i remember nothing except that we used the chords G and D (though I couldn't remember that it was G). however, being my father's son, and my cousin's cousin, iam somewhat of a genious natural virtuoso do have some skillz. nothing fancy yet, but thanks to snow patrol, i am starting to remember which chord structures are which (like, A is 002220, and G is 320003, etc) and have got the major chords under my belt (except F which everyone hates, and B which I forget); thanks to my dad, i am going to start practicing accurately picking with fingers (instead of strumming, or even picking with a plectrum); and thanks to Dad's Hoarding Complex (which he passed on to me), I have an old guitar to keep and love and name.
now he just needs to get my sister [his old drum kit/some of his old drums] for her room and no one in our house will ever sleep again =D
too bad about the toll on my fingers - it's been over an 2 hours since i stopped playing (i know - if you do the maths, that means i stopped playing before 12, and if i'd told you i'd been playing for about 2 hours, you'd be able to work out that i started playing about 10am, meaning the mass was at 9 which means i was up at 8 [cause i always get up an hour before things], and we all know how i feel about doing things before 11am, especially on days off), but my fingers are still burning. by tomorrow i predict two blisters and a slightly swollen ring finger.
ah well, at least i'm finally learning guitar. i think my mid-year's resolution should be to become an average(minimum)-to-good(optimum) player by christmas. maybe my 19th? =D
edit: dammit - i just realised i don't have a musicmusic icon... now i'm sad :(
