But there are signs of a change as new and powerful instrumentalities come into use. Photocells capable of seeing things in a physical sense, advanced photography which can record what is seen or even what is not, thermionic tubes capable of controlling potent forces under the guidance of less power than a mosquito uses to vibrate his wings, cathode ray tubes rendering visible an occurrence so brief that by comparison a microsecond is a long time, relay combinations which will carry out involved sequences of movements more reliably than any human operator and thousands of times as fast—there are plenty of mechanical aids with which to effect a transformation in scientific records.

(the linked article is about some guy who thinks scientists have to stop being pro war and start being pro mental-expansion. who ever said they were all pro war? it is from 1945 though, I believe.)

This is the kind of science I wanted to get out of school. This is the stuff I wanted from Physics, why I thought it was going to be fun and excitement. That's the kind of stuff I want to do for a living. Inventing, experimenting, researching cool sciencey things. Too bad Science never really showed that much interest in me :(

Other things in the article )

I found today weird. I was meant to meet up with someone, after two weeks of near social silence, but I screwed up and didn't. However, on my way home, I saw Cyn and Alexa and Charlie (actually, they saw me :P), and sat with them for a while, and had another four people go past that I knew - Chris, Hillary, Amy Hii and Crystal. Was the universe trying to balance out my day? Does this mean the universe thinks Amy Brown is worth two good friends, three borderline friends (as in more than aquaintances), a girl I went to primary school with, and a... well, an Alexa?

Notes For Future: MAKE PLANS!!!! School friends and uni friends alike seem not ever to have believed in making plans BEFORE going out ("Oh, we'll figure out what to watch when we get there" "Oh, we'll see what's open when we get to Oxfrod Street"). NO MORE!! Must. Plan. Ahead.

(p.s. Awesome song. Listen to it! :D)
