... in which I steal a meme from Andrew ([personal profile] citizenerased )

THE MEME OF 2007

1. What did you do in 2007 that you'd never done before?
In no particular order I:
- went out with Uni people
- went to Oxford Street
- went to Purple Sneakers
- went to Pancakes on the Rocks
- consider myself completely gay
- outed myself to family
- postes photos of myself :O
- was in the hospital for surgery
- had stitches (how had I gone my whole life without stitches?)
- was in the ER
- told a guy I Liked them, face-to-face, and stone sober
- hooked up with a guy...
- was outed to strangers
- bought things online
- broke a computer (my laptop) as opposed to having it die
- met people from LiveJournal face-to-face
- started associating with rabbits (after surgery) and spiders (arachnodactyly)
- had a Paid Account for a small period
- received flirting advice from Miss Amy ( [personal profile] highlyeccentric )
- stayed awake for two days, twice
- realised my particular style of Crazy is hereditary - I get it from my Awesome Great Aunt Fran
- contemplated a science/research-based career as opposed to music/teaching
- started harsh skin medication, though apparently the stuff I was on before has a tendency to give you Lupus if you're on it for more than 6 months
- had my first proper Stalker/Creepy Dude (i.e. more than just some creepy guy at the bus stop)
- broke an ATM :P
- was probably more emo than ever before
- wrote "proper" songs... with music and melodies and whatnot
- used proper recording equipment
- used other recording equipment
- used GarageBand to compose a piece
- gave people fantastic birthday presents (not that I'm boasting or anything :P)
- ate seriously bad kebabs, twice
- gave my number to someone... though they turned out to be straight... whoops
- did something on/for New Years Eve
- had the best and longest birthday ever
- had the best Christmas ever

2. Did you keep your new years' resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
I didn't make any for 2007. I think I should stop hitting on my straight male friends while drunk, though. That can be my resolution for this year.

3. Did anyone close to you give birth?
Not that I was told about.

4. Did anyone close to you die?
Yes.

5. What countries did you visit?
Um... I didn't?

6. What would you like to have in 2008 that you lacked in 2007?
A boy. A good job. Not so much relationship drama, if possible.

7. What date(s) from 2007 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
October 13 (strawberries). October 20 (running down that hill). December 14 (birthday with friends).

8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
Does coming out count?

9. What was your biggest failure?
Self control while under the influence. Three times. Sigh.

10. Did you suffer illness or injury?
Um, I did run down a hill and bash my skull into the road. Other than that though, not really.

11. What was the best thing you bought?
Quite possibly my ticket to Muse.

12. Whose behavior merited celebration?
My sister's.

13. Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?
My own. See 9.

14. Where did most of your money go?
Alcohol and Things Online.

15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?
Katie Noonan, Missy Higgins (though everyone else's lackluster responses to invites got me down somewhat) and MUSE

16. What song(s) will always remind you of 2007?
Time Is Running Out, purely for teh MUSE concert

17. Compared to this time last year, are you:
A. happier or sadder?
Happier, I guess. I have better friendships now, and I was coming out of my shell which is something I've wanted to do forever (though in some cases I wish I hadn't)
B. thinner or fatter? Knowing my luck, thinner :(
C. richer or poorer? Couple thousand poorer, I think.

18. What do you wish you'd done more of?
Non-clubbing/drinking outtings with friends, both uni and work and other.

19. What do you wish you'd done less of?
To be honest, drinking, though that would make Purple Sneakers and Stonewall (and Blink too, possibly) quite boring, and would limit the amount of time spent with uni friends.

21. Did you fall in love in 2007?
No. I've Liked a couple people, but I can't say I've fallen in love. I'd like to though.

22. How many one-night stands?
One, I guess.

23. What was your favorite TV program?
Heroes.

24. Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?
Uh, no?

25. What was the best book you read?
I don't do favourites well, so I'm going to say anything by Neil Gaiman :)

26. What was your greatest musical discovery?
Gwyneth Herbert

27. What did you want and get?
Experiences.

28. What was your favorite film of this year?
I only saw two in cinemas - Transformers and PS I Love You. So Transformers.

29. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
Had a week of celebrating starting the Friday before and ending the Friday after. On the day itself, I had lunch with friends and went Christmas shopping. 'Twas awesome, though Nick was worried I wasn't having a good time. So silly.

30. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
Boy.

31. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2007?
Improving? HAHA! Definitely better than in first year, though not as good as it could be. Mainly because I'm so rakish that nothing much fits me properly.

32. What kept you sane?
Sleep and friends.

33. Which celebrity/public figure(s) did you fancy the most?
John Barrowman

34. What political issue(s) stirred you the most?
I don't do politics. I'm cynical, and believe that little people don't have any power to change the world while Politics is the name of the game.

35. Who did you miss?
Kelly when she went to Europe :(
Cyn whenever we went to Stonewall :(

36. Who was the best new person you met?
Female: Theodora!
Male: Nick

37. Tell us a valuable life lesson, or lessons, that you learned in 2007:
Don't run down hills post-drinking. Get to know people properly before you decide to tell them you Like them. It only seems like everyone notices as many flaws as you do yourself. Not all pretty people are shallow, and not all are as confident as they should be. Listen to gut feelings when it involves Creepy Dudes. But don't overthink everything.

Sorry - it won't let me put it behind a cut for some reason.

In other news, I got myself two Terry Pratchet books the other day - The Colour of Magic and The Light Fantastic. While in Dymocks, I saw Making Money and noticed it was Terry Pratchet. Then I saw the name The Light Fantastic and absolutely had to get it. Then I realised it was part of a series, and had to start at the beginning, which is The Colour of Magic. Thankfully, TLF is only the second book in the series, so I didn't make a huge leap or anything. I started reading TLF anyway, though, and think that Neil Gaiman may have some authorial competition now.

New Year's Eve was a good night. Cyn, Matt and I had dinner and went to Purple Sneakers at Manning Bar, where we saw Dappled CIties Fly but no fireworks. Contemplated just hugging Matt at midnight, seeing as he is With Boy (though Boy was absent), but he wasn't really accessable, and it would have been weird anyway. Toyed with the idea of finding James of the Strawberry Kisses for the minute or two before midnight, but decided against it - he was more excited to see Cyn than me when we saw him, so... yeah. And I didn't meet anyone there. Ah well, I have a whole year ahead of me to find someone for the next NYE party.

And the relationship dramas with certain people continue... but I think they're cooling down, so that's something.
