Was that the NCLS survey? that's about so much more than funding... even if funding is the most immediate result that any one congregation ever sees. It's the only comprehensive survey of the whole church (i think- unless some denominations do their own surveys). Take the Uniting Church for example- we're always having trouble with the sexuality issue, and at the top level each side is saying they have the grassroots support. Dunno if sexuality comes up on the NCLS- probably not given that it's ecumenical and the Sydney Anglicans would die of shock if you tried to put it in- but that would be a logical use for it. Actually find out what Bob on his farm thinks. That's why the questions about asylum seekers and the like. This way, when the church leaders read in the newspaper that they should stay out of 'politics', they can look at their NCLS and see what their congregants actually expect of them.
I wonder which they'll prefer - that I like boys, or that I don't like Religion.
