But Transformers wasn't like that. I mean, it was true that the other countries weren't technologically advanced enough to create that virus - it was too advanced to have come from anywhere on Earth.
And the military bend made it more realistic in my opinion. Think about the world as it is right now. Where are you gonna find an Amierican military base these days? Middle East. It wasn't pro-war, as much as pro-reality. I can see where you're coming from though. If you read into it a certain way, you can see the whole movie as a metaphor for the war on terror, the American need to save the world from hostile invaders who will destroy everything given half a chance. Then again, you can look into most things any way you want, and quite often you take out what you put in. I prefer to look at Transformers as a coming of age, finding your place type movie where the stereotypical imperfect looser guy gets hot perfect popular girl because he has the courage to risk himself for everyone, and ultimately grows from boy to man. It's a journey movie. All hero movies are.
While I too did cringe at the line "You're a soldier now!", it was along the right vein. Shia had to step up and save the world, and Soldier Guy told him so in the words he knew. What else could he have said that would have struck home as hard and as fast as that?
... um, yeah :P Sorry it took so long to reply - internet has been too slow to load LJ properly these past couple a days :( But feel free to continue your rant if you want :D
