tonight, i had the great honour of singing with Midnight Swim. well, they weren't all there and there was a ring-in, but it was still heaps good.
my cousin michael (guitar), cameron (bass) and cameron's girlfriend gabby (piano)[because Anthony The Torch has been unreachable for several weeks now] all came around to my place just after 7, set up, and we got pretty much straight into it (after the introductions of course, seeing as i had never met Cam or Gabby before tonight). We ran through Catacombs quite a few times and we finally got it to 4minutes and 5seconds (which is bloody-well close enough to 4minutes if you ask me). It is a little faster then the recorded version is, and a lot of the instrumental bars have been cut, and it has been raised 4 semitones (or just 2 tones as i realised tonight - duh!) but it still sounds like the original ... to an extent. We were of course missing the drums (as they would probably make the melancholy-ness of the piece crumble) and the lead vocals were replaced by myself (which is good because Sean is off with Thirsty Jerk at the moment, playing guitar for them on tour ... *mid dip related/inspired grumbles/mean-looks*).
As i said, we went through the piece quite a few times, and by the end of the night, it sounded really good (once i stopped confusing lines, learnt to count 6/8 beats and thought about breathing every once in a while). As the guys were leaving, Michael gave me a small bundle of flyers to spread across the earth ... or just give to friends. i think that most of the gigs are over 18 only, so if you want to go
d_vinci, i think you will be by yourself, but don't let that stop you. and i was going to get one of the flyers signed as per
hydeist_'s request, but they left with out doing so - i might have another go on friday night when we play the mock trial. But i will try to get at least a pic of one of the flyers (there were two - one for all their ep-launch tour-gigs (Melbourne to Sydney), and one for their Sydney ep-launch tour-gig) scanned and up in a following post.
Anyway, think that that is enough from me for now - i am sleepy and only one of my friends is online at the moment, but even he seems distracted by something else, so i think i shall say goodnight to you all and leave you in peace ... finally.
