How come there are both feminist studies and queer studies, but no masculine studies?

Doesn't that seem a little sexist? Or are straight guys just that uninteresting?

Why does there even need to be queer studies. To be honest, I'm kind of insulted by the concept of queer studies. It makes us sound like freaks that need to be tested in an obscure secret research facillity - your typical "aliens on Earth" scenario. At least with feminist studies there was a feminist movement, which is what I assume the focus of FS is.

Bah! *goes back to essay*

Queers have had a few queer movements. And if you want masculine studies:

Grr argh
Boobies
Beer
Football
Power tools
Y'argh
I'm so manly
Sex
Sex
Sex
Sex
....andddd spent

Haha! Yeah, that pretty much sums it up for the staights. Except you forgot about the cars! Straight guys LOVE cars.

I still think it's wrong to devote scholarly studies to us like that. How would, for example, African Americans like it if something like Black Studies came out?

Then again, I'm probably just misdirecting my leftover Performance Studies anger at this, and making far too big a deal about it.

actually there's a gender studies unit called "cultures of masculinities". i haven't done it, but my friends tell me it's fab. :)

i clicked on your name from the usyd lj community. thought i'd give you the ad for the queer masquerade party since you couldn't see it before. and because it might actually be a night worth going to. :) hopefully you can see this one:

Hey thanks! :D It does actually sound pretty good, not that any of the music people are familiar :P I'll definitely have to see if anyone wants to come along.

Lol! Ok, fine. I'm just gonna give up on this now. This post was written in a moment of anger towards a Performance Studies essay I was writing, and wasn't all that thought out, to be honest.

the old Women's Studies dept. of Sydney Uni is now the Gender Studies dept... and as well as covering issues of femaleness, and queerness, they're also running a course entitled 'modes of masculinity' or some such this year ;)

I think I was just angry at Performance Studies and took it out on the reference to Queer Studies in one of the articles I had to read.

methinks you might be right, all the same

OH GOD THE PROCRASTINATION

i have a 50 pack of connectapens :D I'm doing bright headings on my speech cards...

Oh, I probably am, as usual. :P

As long as you aren't using a different colour for each stroke of each letter, I can't see too much wrong with that. :P

Straight guys are uninteresting.

I definitely see how Queer Studies could be insulting, because it further seperates queers from straights, which is retarded...but I'm a hippocrite, because I know if my college offered it, I would so take it. But that's just because of my love of the gays. =D

But then, maybe not...because gays in Gainesville all seem to suck...

From: [identity profile] phrasemuffin.livejournal.com

That's exactly what I was thinking!!
Segregation is not cool!

Maybe I should bring some of my non-sucky gay friends (not a pun :P) to Gainesville sometime and teach them a thing or two, yo.

From: [identity profile] yodallama.livejournal.com

You TOTALLY should! Almost every gay I've met here (this applies to both male s and females) has serious drama trauma, or are hoooes (and not in the fun way!) So I've just decided it must be something with gays in Gainesville... You should DEFINITELY bring some of your awesome gay friends though. It could be a gay field trip, and you can all stay with me and we can have a big gay slumber party in my living room! *Squee*

From: [identity profile] phrasemuffin.livejournal.com

Drama trauma? Never heard of that. And what are hoooes, exactly?

Maybe there's something in Gainseville water that doesn't react well with the gay gene, causing spasmodic episodes of not-the-good-kind-of-suckyness. You should look into that before my super awesome friends and I come over, otherwise it may just be in vain.

But the big gay slumber party in your living room sounds AWESOME!!! I would so be in on that if, you know, we didn't live on different continents. Damn continental drift!
